Carpool etiquette — how to be a great ride partner in Bangladesh
Seven simple rules of Bangladesh carpool etiquette — from punctuality to pickup points to paying fairly.
Updated
Be punctual
The driver and every other passenger is waiting on you. Being 5 minutes late once is fine; being chronically late will get you dropped. Confirm your pickup window the night before.
Pick a clear landmark for pickup
'Near the masjid by the main road in Sector 7' is better than a GPS pin. Drivers know local landmarks; they don't know your house number. Uttara Sector 7 playground, Banani 11 petrol pump, and similar landmarks work.
Agree on the cost before starting
The listing says the cost mode (free, split fuel, fixed price). Confirm the exact amount before the ride — ambiguity is the fastest way to a bad experience.
Respect the car and driver
Don't eat greasy food inside. Don't smoke unless the owner explicitly allows it. Keep the volume of your phone calls reasonable. Thank the driver.
Cancel early if plans change
A same-day cancellation means the driver has an empty seat and can't easily find a replacement. Cancel the night before whenever possible, and explain why.
Leave a review
Ratings and reviews are how good drivers rise and bad ones get filtered out. A 30-second review helps the entire community find trustworthy partners.
Pay promptly
If the cost is split fuel or fixed, pay at the end of the ride via bKash, cash, or however you agreed. Don't make the driver chase you.
